Planning Your Wedding

We are delighted that you are considering getting married at St Margaret's. It would be a privilege to support you as you move towards your special wedding day. There are a few things to discuss with St Margaret's before your wedding date can be confirmed at our church, so make contact sooner rather than later to ensure you can synchronise the date with your reception venue.

Weddings at your local church

St. Margaret's is a very attractive old church which has been sensitively modernised inside to give a great flexible space. You can marry here if you are over 18 and live in the parish or if you have a link with the church (e.g. your parents were married or baptised here, you used to come when you were younger). To find out if you live in our parish, just enter your postcode into this website: www.achurchnearyou.com/parishmap.php

Frequently asked questions

How much will it cost?

The costs for a wedding in a Church are set by the Church of England (2023 is set at a maximum of £641). Visit the Church of England website for more information.

If you want an organist this will be extra.

What it we are divorced?

We are happy to meet people who have been married before because we believe that no one is perfect, we all make mistakes and our God is a God of love and forgiveness. Talk to the Rector about this when you see him, but please don't worry about it.

Do we have to come to church?

No, you don't have to but it would be lovely to see you at our services. Many couples like to come when we read their banns. This involves reading out your names in a service telling everyone that you are due to marry for the first 3 weeks, the month before the wedding date. We always pray for the couples once we have read these out.
